new fence!

With the help of my fantastic friend, Evan Holt of Impresario Art, I put up a fence last weekend!

We put up a 5' fence in the front and back and I'll be putting up 5'6" fillers in the existing fence to keep the pooch in.

Here's Evan, chopping wood. He figured out the design, helped me pick out all the wood we'd need to finish the project and showed me how to do everything! I never would have even started without his help!

the back fence going up! The top six inches were all rocks so the augering took forever. The hole on the left was the first... and deepest... then they got shallower as we went along!

The front fence before we put the gate on. While we were digging the holes we found bricks two feet under the yard in one hole! In the other we drilled straight into an old fence post hole - perfect!

It took a lot of hard work to get the project done but we've got a beautiful fence at the end of the day!

Home Improvement 055

I know next to nothing about home improvement. Evan showed me a thing or two and took me to the home depot though, so I may just know enough to be dangerous.

With the help of my new best friend, my trusty cordless drill (thank you, thank you, Mr. Holt), I managed to do some home improvement today - I put up rods in the closets!

Check it out:

a new rod in the downstairs closet - easy.

upstairs closet before...

upstairs closet after - this was a hard one. The closet is 11+ feet long but I could only get 9 feet of rod through the door. I had to cut it about mid way, support it with the hook and anchor the two pieces into the hook. The closet is VERY short (less than 6') and it will be tough to get some stuff out... but at least we have a place to hang clothes upstairs.

Next project = shelves in the mud room!

All moved in!

Hurray! We're finally here.
Tons of our great friends helped us move in last Friday and now we're all here. The old house will be cleaned out on Wed and we'll be all here, all the time!

The house is less of a disaster zone than when these pictures were taken - things are really starting to come together.

The cable guy is coming tomorrow so I can begin setting up the "media room" - we'll see how it works out.

This is all so much more fun than studying for the bar.

packing while hot sucks

Packing while hot really, really sucks. Thank god it's only 78 today instead of 100+ like the last few days. Still, toting things around really gets a person heated up.

I will be glad when all this packing is over - then we can unpack!

Everything we own in one big pile.

Buster'd rather surf the web than help.

Inspection!

So the inspection was done last week.

The house is in pretty good shape... but they're some not so good things.

The foundation has some buggies living in there... the roof is on the way out and the outgoing sewer pipe has two big holes in it.

We tried to get the seller to replace the roof and the sewer while we covered the cost of the foundation. No go. Instead we worked out a deal for him to fix the sewer and credit us the cost of the roof.

Now we've just got to get past the bank appraisal next week and we'll be moving to our new house next month!

The End

Our search for a house is finally over! We accepted the seller's counteroffer last night at 5:40 and are now well on our way to our very first house. Too exciting & more details to follow.
